Inside the inletwaterbox

The condenser of unit 6 gave trouble for some time now: the pressure-difference of the seacoolingwater before and after became too high so it was obvious: it was clogged with something.
The condenser consists of a couple of thousands of small titanium pipes through which the coolingwater flows. The steam coming from the low pressure turbine condensates at the outside of those pipes and turns back into water (condensate) which is then pumped back to the feedwatertank and from there back to the boiler where it turns back into steam...

We stopped the unit, cooled it down as good as possible and emptied the coolingsystem.
Here is a look through a manhole: you can see the pipes. The red plugs have been put in the clogged pipes to blast them with high pressure water through the pipes, so the dirt (mussels, Japanese oysters and other debris) is pushed out to the backside of the condenser.
There must be a cause for this pollution of the condenser: the debris filter before it is letting things through... It has to be replaced as soon as possible but the spare one is in the shop to be prepared and that takes time. (it's 2 meters in diameter)

See the manhole in this almost Blip.
