Hoverfly
Mrs Catspaw and I have pre-ordered a lovely book on flies which unfortunately won't be published until the end of October, so assuming (and hoping) this year will prove to be a good one for hoverflies (and for insects of all kinds - in stark contrast to 2024), I'm going to have to continue making provisional identifications from internet images for another whole season.
Is this one, I wonder, a young (or, at any rate, relatively small) example of the Common Drone Fly, Eristalis tenax?
