White blossom
Blipped in Craiglockhart woods with JH at the start of a walk up Easter Craiglockhart Hill, taking in a bit of a mooch round the housing developments that have been ongoing for the last few years, some new build and the rest redevelopment of older buildings, mostly Victorian but one much older building. JH knew some of the buildings from when the site was owned by Napier University, where she worked.
We then came down off the hill to Craiglockhart Pond to see what the birdlife was up to and were puzzled to see ten fully grown swans, three with some grey/brown feathers which were presumably last year's cygnets and the rest white, so must be a couple of years old or more. Eric, who is one of the resident swans came along with his wings up in aggressive mode and chased all but one of them out of the pond and onto the grass near the gym. We then went along to the reed bed at the other end of the pond and saw Dotty on a nest within the reeds which looks like a good spot. I've no idea what will happen with all these interlopers about between now and when the new cygnets hatch, nor after they have hatched. Watch this space!
It was a great little trip and I was very pleased to get to the top of a hill even if it wasn't a huge one!
Today was notable for it being the day that Leeds United won promotion to the Premier League. My younger brother is still an ardent Leeds fan and the results always get discussed in our WhatsApp group so I have to take a bit of interest. I just hope they will survive in the PL and not be relegated after one or two seasons.
