Saving.
Today we heard about some good case studies of village-level communal savings schemes which have had a positive and tangible impact. These are not a new model but are often some of the strongest examples of benefits in communities where there is little spare cash and people, usually women, use teamwork and a sense of accountability to set aside small amounts each month. The money grows incrementally and can then be used either by individual households to invest in new livelihoods ideas or by the community collectively for the public good.
When we raise funds and pitch new ideas to potential funders were often required to ‘demonstrate the innovation’ to be eligible. Why can’t we just demonstrate what’s proven to work?
