New Gate
John is part of a voluntary team who replace old and broken stiles in the countryside with new gates. Theoretically, the council should do this and they do pay for the gates on some occasions. For this one, it's in our village and the gate is financed by a trust fund - John's team provide the labour free so everyone wins.
He's been working with the team since he retired and has helped to replace many gates in the countryside. John is one of the hard workers and also a clear thinker when it comes to how the gates are actually going to be fitted - he's also good at chatting to the various landowners to get their cooperation.
I walked that way today with Pepper, using the new gate instead of climbing over the rickety fence.
