Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

Ridiculously Lates!

I was up sharp this morning intercessions in my bag and ready to lead the service. My message hadn't got through to the two sacristans so they were worrying whether we had a celebrant or not. We didn't but we did have me to do a lay version. For some reason I felt more flustered than I did last week however all went well. Someone commented how calm I seemed and that it was nice not to feel rushed. I was clearly doing a good swan impression!
My next stop was the garden centre to pick up some stakes for my two standards roses. One was leaning over somewhat and I've been worried it might break in a string wind. Jason, who has started to come to help in the garden, was due back today and need said he'd stake it for me. I managed not to buy too much at the garden centre but I was very happy to find a Lemon Verbena plant, I lost mine to a frost.
On the way back I popped into the Rectory, it's all looking good. I have someone coming tomorrow to quote for doing a pre tenancy clean so wanted to see how things were. Kevin the builder had put the old fridge and freezer into the driveway for me and I put them out on the street ready for a special uplift tomorrow. He had got rid of everything else but those had to be picked up by the council. £5 an item seemed not too bad if it saved me having to work out how to transport them to the recycling centre.
Back home I decided to set to and clear and repot a couple more of my pots. I bought several new large plantpots, so I'm transplanting the biggest first, into larger pots and then I'll be able to move the next size up into the now empty ones and so on.
I've got lots of daffodils in pots but don't want to move those till the leaves are dying back.
Two hours later and some weeding was done too. It is satisfying, at the moment though I just don't seem to have enough time.
I did some repurposing of the beef and chicken left over from Sunday and put both meats into gravies (separately) ready to pass on to the girls. I kept myself some of the chicken and had it for dinner myself tonight along with left over roast potatoes, parsnips and onions. Very tasty it was too, no expense spared in this house!
Jason arrived about 5pm to do 2 hours work and has made a good impression. I like that he works with a hand trowel when weeding, although I prefer to use a handfork, it means he's being thorough.
I had a good long phone chat with my friend Gill tonight. We haven't spoken for ages. I'm planning a visit before the summer. It will be good to catch up properly. It's over two years since we last met up. How time flies .
My blip today is some potatoes from one of my bags. I never got around to harvesting them last year. They are either ridiculously early for this year or extremely late for last, lol.
They seem to have survived very well and the couple I had for dinner augmented the left over roasties nicely
