Birds & Blooms - Finale?
There are still a few late blooms on the cherry tree, and there are still a few late juncos passing through on their way north. Seemed like a good combo for today.
Today I counted 28 species of birds in our yard over about a 45 minute period, all seen or heard. To my surprise, a second male hummingbird showed up today as well and I watched the two males perch about 20 feet from each other, each studiously ignoring the other. Other things happening in the garden...three (at least) catbirds all muttering at each other with some chasing and posturing going on; male cardinals having big sing-offs all over the woods/yard; a second male house wren trying to out-sing the early arrival; two pairs of bluebirds having a spat about a nest box (even though no one has actually started a nest); and at least 4 tree swallows swooping and soaring while checking out the same nest box. And I haven't seen a chickadee for several days so thinking the resident pair has headed into the woods to nest this year.
I'm having a hard time managing my depression and anxiety right now, so being able to spend time outdoors with the wild things is a gift. When I have a camera pressed against my eye, it's hard to worry about all the stuff that is really dragging me down. Thankfully, lots of birds on hand and an increasing number of insects.
Almost time to go pick up Jax from day care where I'm sure he's had a great time. And since Hubs has karate tonight, I will catch up on a few more episodes of The Americas.
xoxo
