I was worried that the VCR, hidden in the loft since the move (and not used since I digitised a tape of a 1996 pub gig in 2020) was no longer working; the same tape would play only a fraction of a second before stopping (viewed on the old telly, which still has a SCART socket) and wouldn't rewind, but other tapes seem to move cleanly and can hopefully be recorded as soon as I get a replacement USB adaptor, to replace the one I swapped with my parents when they couldn't get theirs to work with their weird outdoor wildlife camera.
