This bed grew spectacular brassicas in summer, and since they finished it has been growing spectacular docks, parsley and clover. This is entirely thanks to fertilising the soil last winter with chook poo shovelled from beneath the girls' perches. What fantastic results. Worth repeating.
Elsewhere I made a Tomme cheese, made a goosegog crumble using fruit from 2023 in an attempt the relieve the pressure on the freezer, and I weeded the lemon tree bed (before it was overrun with twitch / couch grass).
At 3 o'clock I decided to knock off for the day, so that I could join Bean in the sun on the guest deck.
I am reading The Pants of Perspective by Anna McNuff, which is irritating and entertaining me in equal measure. How anybody could fly to NZ from the UK to run the 3000km Te Araroa Trail with little or no planning is beyond me. But it does make for some great stories...
