Splitting the rounds
G split and stacked quite a bit of firewood then mowed the rest of the field.
I planted most of the veggies, just lettuce, spinach, kale and arugula left. Rain in the forecast tomorrow so I'll likely plant later in the week.
Extra: a glimpse of a junco chick. I went out to have a look in the nest and wished I'd had the camera because the entire head was sticking out. I went back a couple of times with the camera but no luck, and this was the best I got. I liked the pin feathers.
What a tragedy in Vancouver last night at the end of the Lapu Lapu Day celebration. Eleven people were killed and many others injured after a person drove an SUV into the Lapu Lapu Day block party. Such a senseless act.
April 27 was officially recognized as Lapu Lapu Day by the BC government in 2023 to acknowledge the cultural contributions of the Filipino-Canadian community, one of the largest immigrant groups in the province. Lapu-Lapu was an inspirational Indigenous leader and a datu (chief) of Mactan, an island now part of the Phillippines. When a Spanish force fighting under the command of Ferdinand Magellan tried to colonize the island of Mactan and convert its people to Christianity, Datu Lapu-Lapu, known as the “the first Filipino hero,” was the only chief who refused to accept the authority.
