The Pensioner

Pirate

After a morning of lounging it was off along to Newhaven to spectate at the spectacle that was the Newhaven Maritime Festival organised by our very own Coastal Rowers.
And here we can see Dame Katherine Grainger, a rower of no small reputation, right? She was naming the new boat, built by the Grassmarket Project. Most of the kids hanging over the railings with me were more interested in the guy with the hat who they all excitedly thought was a pirate. In Hi-Viz, eh? Just shows what they learn at school these days.
Then it was up to Lixmount to pick up the minky as her parents were off to a wedding and bring her down to spectate, hook up with the SK, and listen to sea shanties. And small boy and his minder came awhile too.
We had a fine evening, watched some of the Wizard of Oz and got her off to sleep at the back of 9pm. Disclaimer final episode – that’s been very good; Kate Blanchette is always good, mind. I think.
Anyway, what was the new boat named I hear you ask? I asked a few people. Dorcas I think, said one, it’s biblical. Dorcha I think, said another, it’s gaelic. Boat naming fail, that.
