Dipper delight #44
Today I went off to Aysgarth Falls, famous for the scene from Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner, where Robin fights with Little John on the river. However, it wasn't the Upper Falls I was interested in. The last time I was here, 12 years ago, we saw dippers at the Lower Falls and I was hopeful that there was still some dipper activity there for me to see.
I walked down to the viewing platform and then on to stone slabs on the river bank. I walked back up towards middle falls until I found a nice rock to sit on and played with photographing the falls, not very successfully either :(.Then all of a sudden out of the corner of my eye I caught sight of a bird landing reasonably close by. Yay, it was my dipper. Not only was it a lovely dipper, but there were also two fledglings who were still being fed by their parent bird. I hadn't noticed them until the adult bird flew in and then I couldn't fail to notice them, or rather hear them.
I'd picked the right place to sit and had a lovely 45 minutes watching the noisy youngsters being fed constantly.
I then took a little drive over to Hawes, picked up some lovely Wensleydale cheese and had a little wander in the town.
