Memory Lane

is closed.

This was Mrs B's way to work every morning, when she was returning from seeing me at Brüggen.  She worked at RAF(H) Wegburg, about 20 minutes' drive from my station and we returned there this morning, only to find the lane blocked.  You can just see the guardroom on the right behind this rather menacing metal gate.

To be fair, the hospital has been closed almost as long as the Wall has been down, but it would have been pleasurable to wander the old way for her one more time.  Brüggen closed to the RAF in 2001, was used by the British Army for a few years and is now almost totally demolished, going by the view from the road.

And in the Extra, a goose family on the bank of the Hariksee, where we used to walk many years ago. 

The area is beautiful, particularly in the sunshine; we have really enjoyed our visit, but tomorrow we head off to Bavaria to visit friends and attend Mrs B's goddaughter's wedding.
