Skara Brae and beyond .

The. Year 3 history I taught for a number of years included a topic about Skara Brae and today the textbooks were replaced by the real thing! I found it utterly fascinating.
It was especially interesting to see it insitu and imagine what the surrounding landscape would have been like. We saw it in sunshine too.
NC and I took it in turns to look round as Bramble is unwell , she had several attacks of vomiting and keeps losing her balance. Luckily ( bring a dog rather than a human ) we were blessed to get an appointment with a vet , blood tests , medicine and a probable diagnosis. It’s likely that the nausea and lack of balance are connected to inflammation in her inner ear. It could take a while for her to recover but she should be okay after a week or so . What a relief!
We are now parked up by one of Churchill’s barriers looking out over Scapa flow . We walked down to the beach and got chatting to two local ladies who told us about the area in the past and now in the present. How the barriers have impacted on the coastline for example so that new sand dune systems are being created . Tomorrow , on the advice of the ladies, we will visit the Orkney fossil and Heritage centre to find out more.
Extras are of our view of Scapa flow this evening and Bramble looking a bit perkier than she did earlier.
