Main event!
It was the main event of the tour today, the Tynedale Mini Rugby Festival with 70 teams and nearly 1000 kids! Quite an event!
The different between English and Scottish systems meant the Accies P6 team were playing mostly kids that were a little older, and who play a different and slightly more physical set of rules (more people allowed in a ruck, hooking in scrums, ripping allowed in the tackle etc). The Accies had done some extra training sessions to try to acquire these skills, but the coaches were a bit worried that bigger kids with rules the Accies weren't used to might result in some demoralising defeats.
No need to have worried. The Accies played 4 and won 4, in each case with at least double the number of tries of their opponents. They didn't necessarily come off well in the contact battles, but great teamwork, passing, and some really fast runners (often coming from near their own try line) meant that nearly every time they got a turnover or interception they scored off the back. Great fun to watch!
By the time we got on the bus home everyone (adults and children alike) was shattered, but that didn't stop the singing of many victory songs.
Cyclops and CyclopsJnr were both pleased to be home in their own beds for an early night.
