Grumpy Old Man

Warm weather

A warm day today, so I decided to get on with some gardening, which generally means weeding potted plants and maybe potting them up. I hauled a barrow-full of leafmould from the garage down at road level up to garden level to top-dress my Rhododendron lindleyi, a lovely scented though rather tender species from the eastern Himalayas. The flowers have come out over the last couple of days - my extra today.

After lunch I walked down to the town to buy a paper - any excuse to get me walking! It was hot in the sun and hard work walking back up! My Blip today is of the MV Clansman coming in behind Oban's last remaining monkey puzzle tree!

I don't understand this temperature business - I assume that temperatures are recorded in the shade, but although the online forecast gave 18 degrees for Oban, in the shade on our deck it was 24.2! I checked with a second thermometer to make sure and that said 23.6. Placing the thermometer in full sun it went up to 35.2 and the cat came in and found a totally shady place in the living room. So it's quite warm here and I'm going to sit out with a book and a glass of ginger beer!
