Roman Baths

I took the opportunity of a forthcoming trip to Exmoor to stop off in Bath before heading to Glastonbury for a couple of nights.

On my last trip a few years ago I was unable to visit the Roman Baths due to long queues and lack of time, but I had no such problem today with no queues and a relaxing visit.  I even dared to "take the waters" at the end of the visit round this fascinating museum; I found the water wasn't as bad to drink as some people make out!

My main image is a classic view of the Great Bath with Bath Abbey in the background. The extras show the gold gilded bronze head of Sulis Minerva, the goddess of the thermal spring at the heart of this World Heritage Site, and the overflow which is part of the Roman engineered arrangements for controlling the water from the spring round the baths, and which still have the same role today.
