West Highland Way Day 1 - Craigallian Loch

A walk from Milngavie in the Glasgow suburbs out to Drymen. About 13 miles.
Initially we walked through the rather lovely Mugdock Wood with loads of bluebells, out to Craigallian Loch and the north along the old railway line and a wee road to Drymen.
At times the path felt quite busy with a very multinational mixture of walkers , and at other times it was very quiet.
Craigallian Loch was the base for Glasgow weekend climbers who explored this part of Scotland in the 20s and 30s. They often walked from their work - spent a weekend living rough in the hills returning to Glasgow on a Monday. There is a memorial to a spot where there was always a fire lit for passing walkers. In many ways the start of the Right to Roam movement in Scotland.
