What not to do with Aquilegia
I went up to the allotment first thing and picked some rhubarb and the first of the aquilegia. I then left them in the car in full sun for about 3 hours. By the time I remembered them, the rhubarb felt part cooked and the flowers had wilted and some more. I have put them in a vase more in hope than expectation.
I also did a bit of science. My main water butt is empty - no rain for a long time, but the one it overflows into is full but has no tap. So time to use that bit of hose that has been sitting in the shed and get syphoning. I was amazed at how clean the inside for the water butt looks in the extra. If you look closely, you can see the ripples caused by the syphoning.
When I went back this evening, the two butts have even levels. I gave the first early potatoes a really good watering and then "earthed" them up with a really good mulch of grass cuttings.
