Horace's Duskywing...
This small butterfly is found in the U.S. from Massachusetts to Florida and west to eastern South Dakota, the Gulf Coast, south-eastern Utah, Colorado, north-eastern Arizona and New Mexico. The state of Connecticut lists it as a 'species of special concern'. Females are more colorful than males, so this one is probably Ms Duskywing. Host plants for its caterpillars are mostly oak species. Live oak is most likely its favorite around North Central Florida. This one is enjoying the sweet nectar from a flower on one of our potted Lignum Vitae trees. m
