(119) I Got My Kicks...

...On Route 76

Perfect cycling weather today so I set out in the morning for a day on the bike. I took a train to Dunfermline in the morning to miss out the 'boring' bits then set out along the West Fife Cycle Way, (aka NCN 764) to Alloa. The path is laid upon the route of the of the former Dunfermline to Alloa railway and is an excellent traffic-free route. From Alloa there are various options of getting to Stirling before turning south east and heading towards Falkirk for a coffee and cake stop at the Kelpies. From there it's a mixture of cycle paths and quiet 'B' roads to Bo'ness where NCN 76 runs along the south shore of the River Forth. At South Queensferry I turned on to the Forth Road Bridge and back to Fife where I planned to catch a train home again from Dunfermline. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the track/points somewhere further along the line so my train journey was very short and I cycled the rest of the way home instead. Very handy having a bike with me instead of having to try and phone friends or family to pick me from the station! I got home in under an hour and that took the mileage for the day to a very enjoyable 85 miles in the sunshine. Main blip is a view from NCN76 on the south side of the Forth. First extra is from Dunfermline Glen/Pittencrief Park, the second extra is a view from the West Fife Cycle Way, taken beside one of the old railway signal boxes, third extra is at the Kelpies, and the last extra is a view from the Forth Road Bridge, on the way back to Fife.
