Froggie
Last week's entry showed the large very spiky agave which had bloomed. I cut off the bloom but it still had an odd sort of 'stump' coming out of it. It had also gotten too big for the space, so Dana declared it gone. Not only did she declare it gone, she dug it out herself. (The first extra here shows it before it was taken out). John had painstakingly cut off all the sharp spikes at the end of each frond. I didn't see it as I had to make yet another pharmacy run but it was out when I got home. She suggested moving the froggie pot into the vacated space as a filler until we decided what to do. We really like it there so I think we'll leave him there. He was terra cotta colored when Tim and Joni gave him to us, but he's turned almost black over the years and fits in rather well with all the rocks. Tomorrow we'll go to the nursery and get a few flowers to brighten this part of the garden up a little.
It's that time of year when the weather improves and there is a promise of summer in the air, but it's still a bit unreliable and could turn cold again over the weekend. But it does inspire gardening. We're still pulling weeds after all the rain we've had, but the nursery in town specializes in flowers and it is always fun to go there.
My power walk suffered when I ran into a neighbor who told me she has to have knee surgery next week. An MRI showed the meniscus had completely torn off the bone and they will be reattaching it somehow. She will be non-weight bearing for 6 weeks, which is worse than having a total knee replacement which one is encouraged to walk on it as soon as possible. John caught up with me on his way back still standing and talking with Cindy.
Quote of the day:
Our retirees don't deserve to be left destitute by a Social Security Administration decimated by Elon Musk. Our citizens don't deserve to lose healthcare coverage because Republicans want to hand a tax cut to billionaires. Our federal workers don't deserve to have, well, a 19 year old DOGE bro called Big Balls destroy their careers....If it sounds like I'm becoming contemptuous of Donald Trump and the people he has elevated, it's because...I am. You should be too. They are an affront to every value this country was founded upon.
