All that remains …..
Today’s another hospital appointment in The Royal in Liverpool. Having had a polyp removed last November, this was the follow-up appointment to check there was no regrowth or other growth elsewhere. I’m very impressed by the thoroughness of the Complex Colonoscopy Team, but having my third procedure in six months is something I could do without!
Many fellow blippers will know the joy of ‘bowel prep’ - often seen as far worse than the procedure itself. Getting up at 6.00am to take my second litre dose is far from fun!
My 12.30 appointment ends up being delayed until about 2.00pm due to a very complex case overrunning. It’s frustrating, but obviously unavoidable, and soon I’m happily sedated - awake, but relaxed. I’m grateful for this as it ends up being in the words of the doctor, a ‘difficult colonoscopy’, but all’s well and I’m now discharged from the team’s care. One less thing to worry about!
G has to collect me as having had sedation I’m not allowed to walk out of the building on my own, and as we exit we’re faced with the last remaining part of the old Royal’s demolition - one remaining ‘block’, sides ripped apart with wires and cables spilling out in a chaotic mess. Over the last four years of hospital visits I’ve gone from being treated in the old brutalist building to moving to the ‘state of the art’ new hospital, watching the old building being ripped apart section by section until this is all that remains. Next year, apparently, work will start on Liverpool University’s Academic Health Sciences Campus - another part of the increasingly impressive Knowledge Quarter.
