The Victor Hugo trails…
The summer season began with a bang this week. Yes the weather was amazing but what was really amazing was a French cruise ship visiting the island; the first I can remember. The French come over here in droves to visit Victor Hugo’s Hauteville House and it’s a brilliant idea to offer them a tour of all things connect to their hero.
Hopefully plenty French visitors will come over all summer bringing lots of Euros with them!
I had got this far with my blip then had a look to choose a saying of the day. One that caught my interest was ‘revenge is a dish best served cold’. I was trying to think how I could link this to my blip when I realised I had written the heading of the saying but not researched its origin so I hopped over to google and hey presto it fits perfectly with today’s blip. You could say there’s a French connection.
So today’s saying is ‘revenge is a dish best served cold’.
It's commonly believed that the saying was first coined by French author Pierre Choderlos de Laclos (1741-1803), an army general who preferred penning novels. His most famous work (which he took a six month vacation to write) was Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons - 1782).
