Warton old sea wall
Our post swim walk today took us to the end of an artificial spit made of old iron ore slag dumped in the 1800s to build a sea wall to protect the salt marshes of Warton. The old wall has suffered lots of storms since then and looks like the surface of the moon now. It's still doing its job though and there were many happy sheep grazing on the salt marsh. I was of course tempted out there by a geologist who had placed an earth cache there for us to solve. I had to identify the types of iron ore in the slag.
If you look at the map pin it seems I am in the sand. . But click satellite view and you will see I was at the end of an artificial rocky spit that is protecting the marsh.
All very unusual and interesting.
