A Beautiful Day in Ayrshire
It couldn’t have been a better day for my tour of Ayrshire. We visited Culzean (pronounced Coo-lin) Castle. In 1945, the third floor was gifted to General Eisenhower for his role in defeating the Nazis. He called it his “Scottish Whitehouse”. I was able to see his desk but the suite, which is now the Eisenhower Hotel, was under renovations. Henry is standing in front of the largest display of flintlock pistols in the world, over 1,000. It was then on to Alloway and to the Robert Burn’s Museum where Henry posed with bagpipes in front of the mouse sculpture. (To a Mouse is Henry’s favorite Burn’s poem. Where he got the bagpipes I have no idea.). We saw a bride and groom on the Brig a Doon (the bridge over the river Doon) which, as everyone knows, is tremendous good luck. The extra tonight is Henry in the Champagne Central, where we eat dinner. This year is Glasgow’s 850th birthday! (Aren’t rainbows good luck too?) Tomorrow is another perfect day weather wise for my trip to see the Paisley Abbey and to lunch with my dear friends from Glasgow.
