Inglis Memorial

My friend Jill from Cornwall has been visiting for a couple of days. Today we went to Gatton Hill for a walk. It's part of the Surrey Hills and  very close to junction 8 of the M25. We started with a cream tea in the National Trust cafe and then walked along past the Reigate Fort, the Margery Water Tower and a memorial for some American Airforce Crew who very tragically crashed their plane into the side of Reigate Hill in 1945 on their return to Northampton from The Continent.
We walked as far as the Inglis Memorial which was donated to the Borough of Reigate in 1909 by Lieutenant Colonel Sir Robert Inglis. It was originally a drinking fountain for horses at the top of the original main route over Reigate Hill.
It's now a scenic place for walkers to rest whilst looking out towards the North Downs.
