The Minho area

An early start as we wanted to catch the 8.50am train from Porto to Valenca, a  journey of about two hours.
After passing through poor suburbs of Porto, we travelled past small towns,  and then saw the Atlantic breakers arriving on the beach where the railway runs very close to the coast near Valenca.
We are staying in another Pousada, this time within Valenca's  old fortress. My blip is the view from our balcony looking towards the River Minho and the Spanish town of Tui beyond. The Minho is the border between Portugal and Spain's Galicia region.
First we explored  Valenca's busy cobbled streets, lined with shops selling Portuguese textiles and souvenirs, and then we walked to Tui via the railway bridge shown here. In Tui we explored the remains of its old fortress and quiet cobbled streets which are mostly residential.  We passed many people walking the Old Portuguese Camino route  on their way to Santiago de Compostela. We'll be joining them properly on Sunday!
We returned to Valenca just before the heavens opened and there was a fantastic thunderstorm. You can see the clouds gathering in the blip.
This evening we dined at Fatem a restaurant housed in a gatehouse in Valenca's massive old stone wall. We had a "typical" meal of cod fish, which we paired with local  red Vinho Verde. All very tasty!
By 9pm the town was deserted as we strolled back to the Pousada.
