Paydirt
Another long day in the garden, interspersed with putting cushion covers, dog beds and cat rugs through the wash to take advantage of the drying weather. (Once a year is better than never I reckon.)
The brassicas have finally bitten the dust but courgette and bean plants have gone in and lettuces are coming on nicely both in the greenhouse and outside. The Swiss chard, seen here, is at its peak and a bunch of it was accepted in part payment for my haircut this morning.
Although I'm aching at the end of the day the physical workout you get from gardening is second to none: stretching, bending, squatting, lifting, balancing, carrying... who needs a gym?
Plus there's all that bacterial goodness released with the disturbance of earth, the fascinating odour known as geosmin. Even us human olfactory dunces can detect it in levels as low as 100 parts per trillion.
