Tamworth Castle

Having failed in my search for a padlock with enormous numbers in TKMaxx in Tamworth (don't ask), I decided to take a stroll in the Castle Grounds.

It was full of families - lots of kids on the various bits of equipment - pushchairs by the dozen - and assorted workmen with various council lorries of all shapes and sizes.

It was remarkably difficult to get a good shot of the castle, unobstructed by trees, litter bins or power lines, and avoiding catching the two huge and ugly blocks of flats !

And when I did get my shot, there was a random child photobombing......

Tamworth Castle - Wikipedia

Tamworth Castle, a Grade I listed building,[ is a Norman castle, located next to the River Tame, in the town of Tamworth in Staffordshire, England.

Overlooking the River Tame, the site has been fortified since Anglo-Saxon times, when Ethelfleda, the Mercian Queen, built a burh to defend against Danes (Vikings); it served as a residence of the Mercian kings. Rebuilt and enlarged by the Normans, it is today one of the best preserved Norman motte-and-bailey castles in England.

The Castle has the second largest motte in England, after that at Windsor Castle.

Of course, in the grounds were some grumbling squirrels. They're missing a certain blipper.
Where are my nuts ?
