Humbling
I was invited by the Welsh Blood Service to attend an awards ceremony tonight at the Ramada in Wrexham for people who had hit donation milestones.
It's not something I look for and certainly not the reason I've donated over the years and I felt very self-conscious but it was nice nonetheless. We got a meal and there were a couple of talks before going up to collect certificates.
The whole thing was very humbling. There was a talk from somebody who had had leukaemia describing how transfusion of various blood components had ultimately saved her life. There were people having made 50 donations, then it was people having made 75 donations, before about 15 people with 100 donations (on current maximum frequency that would take over 25years). The end of the evening had a Special Recognition Award for a man who had donated 139 times (with 150 scheduled for next week) - there are some very special people around.
