Geranium farreri
First flowers on a seed raised plant out in the garden. I grew it and lost it maybe thirty years ago but it's rarely offered these days so when an offer of seed came up in the AGS seed exchange, I bid for a share. It's very dwarf, barely two inches high so far, the flowers disproportionately large, a feature common in alpine plants. It hails from high in the Himalayas but has long been in cultivation. It's named for Reginald Farrer, botanist, traveller, writer and plant collector active in the early tears of the twentieth century and considered by some as the father of English rock gardening.
I started the day walking with C and the Megs, cooler than of late but still beautiful weather and warm out of the wind. From there to pottery where I picked up a couple of things I wanted to work on. A quiet afternoon at home until Jamie joined me and we had a much longer walk on the beach, Jamie in his beach wheelchair again. A late meal and more quiet time at home this evening. Sleepy now.
