St. Luke’s

We finally got to visit our son in the Brompton today! He is in the same ward with the same view as last time when he had a heart operation.  Think I blipped the same shot the day we visited then.  No time to check!   We were allowed to take him out for a walk.  We saw the six bells pub that Ro as a student would once a week during rag week, help to drink dry!

We walked back through lovely back streets!

We got talking about what they did during Rag week: The students started building a wall across Downing Street and got to nearly 4 bricks high, each student carrying one brick, before the police stopped them! In those days it wasn’t cordoned off in any way as it is now.

Another rag week stunt I liked was where two zebra crossings aren’t very far apart the students marched round keeping a group at a time of cars to ask for money for the cause! Then that group would be let out and the next group allowed through! Rag weeks usually involved making money for a good cause!

Ro used to go to school at the London Oratory school.  Which is now the Royal Marsden hospital, next to the Brompton. So Ro was showing me where the boys’ entrance was and where the girls ‘ was!  The old buildings have been used. (With lots of additions).

After our visit they weren’t letting people into South Kensington tube station! Too many people so we took the 49 bus to Gloucester Road station and were already sitting on the tube as it went into South Ken! Not that many on the platform so who knows!!

The whole tube journey was packed.  After that not bad.  We went to spend an hour or two with our son’s family and took sausage and chips in! So good to see them all.  Home and about to go to sleep! Hope it’s cooled down enough and we sleep better than last night.  The weather is supposed to be breaking.  Our daughter from the states who is in Paris has had record hail storms!

Sorry but commenting is virtually impossible at the moment !  Love you all and have a good weekend!
