My Mom’s Rose

I headed back home from my lovely sojourn at the coast this afternoon. Easy drive, and the kitties were delighted to see me. I puttered around a bit, watering and tending my various plants and gardens.

My mom died in August 2022, and several days later I took a cutting of one of her roses - a gorgeous orange one. The cutting took, and last year it bloomed, although it was not the color I was expecting. I began to suspect that I took a cutting of a cane that was produced from below the graft (sorry, technical plant geek talk!). At any rate, this looks a lot more like the color I’m expecting, so fingers crossed!

And I’m afraid it’s exactly the same blossom. On well, I’m still thrilled to have my mom’s rose growing in my courtyard. Her birthday is May 6th - she would have been 97!
