Droids?

I was walking across New Farm Park when I saw, from a distance, what looked like a row of aliens from a Doctor Who set.

As I approached the bandstand I heard a string orchestra performing and realised that the robot-like creatures were neatly arranged cello cases, looking like an art installation.
