A different kind of wildlife area
This is in the Bristol docks, the second one to be constructed, last year I believe. A wildlife area built out of pontoons lashed together, with gaps here and there to create pools. It’s been carefully planted with wild flowers and plants and is now looking lovely I think. There were several geese when I went past, at about 7.30 in the evening. And no doubt much smaller creatures that I couldn’t see. It makes such a difference to the whole area. .
I was walking back from a party… My friends opposite were having a joint 40th birthday party, starting with a boat trip around the harbour. It was lovely to travel along on the water, following the route of what is anyway my favourite walk in the city. After the boat trip there was a party in a different venue with live music, food and a bar. I popped in to be friendly, but I couldn’t really hear well enough to talk with people, and left after a short while. Hence my Saturday night walk through the harbour area to get a bus home. Everywhere was really buzzing, there’s restaurants and bars all along. Bristol City FC had got into the playoffs earlier in the day so there were football fans out celebrating that (although it’ll end in tears, like in 2008, of that I’m sure:-)). And lots of groups, of young men, young women, and mixed groups. Interesting though, hardly anyone my age. Thousands of people out having fun, though I think quite a lot were pretty drunk.
