Flags are out
We went out for Sunday lunch in Brough, at what is fast becoming our favourite local restaurant. When we first went there earlier this year I posted a photo of the main street, which was originally the main east west road until the A66 was constructed. The houses there lined the road and there were many coaching inns along the way. This was Market Brough.
Brough was always in two parts - Market Brough and Church Brough - the division being made physical by the A66. My photo today is of Church Brough and, even with all the cars, you can see how different it is. This is the original village with the houses growing up around a village green next to the 11th century castle (behind me in the photo). The church (see extra) is just off the centre. Church Brough is a popular place for visits to the castle (that’s why the cars are parked here) and the church. Several very pleasant walks start from here too.
