Chester
A lovely day out in Chester with MrM.
We wandered around the city in glorious sunshine, admiring the Tudor-style half-timbered buildings, and the two-level covered arcades in The Rows shopping district. Took the photo of the cathedral in the Blip as we walked round the Roman walls (a more usual view in the first extra), from where we also saw the Roman amphitheatre, and Roman garden. Later in the afternoon we enjoyed a boat trip on the River Dee. Took so many photos that it was difficult to choose which to Blip, so there are a few extras. (Yes, in case you're wondering, we did succumb to ice cream from the shop by the fabulous clock!)
Time for drink in the station bar before catching the train home. Public transport - ah yes - not the best experience. Suffice to say that the bus we rushed to catch into Huddersfield this morning was cancelled, and the next one was late. Instead of catching the train with loads of time to spare, we screeched to a halt on the station platform just after the doors had closed. Good job I'd bought 'open' tickets.
On the way back, all the digital screens on the platforms at Manchester Victoria were malfunctioning, and it was very difficult to discover where to wait for our connecting train to Huddersfield. Hundreds of people milling round. Luckily the 'Est platform' number on the Trainline app was correct!
Once on the trains, the journeys were very pleasant...
