machine house
We took the S Bahn and bus West towards Potsdam to explore the park at Babelsberg Palace. The park is spectacular. Babelsberg Palace (see extra) was the home of Prince Wilhelm before he became Emperor. The border used to run nearby and parts of the park were flattened for the border. So much history hear and so many reminders of the follies of human destructiveness. Some monuments are destroyed, replaced, rebuilt, or were simply forgotten. We should remember the history but some should be left as a pile of rubble.
I decided to go for the geeky view of the machine house which used to house the steam engine to power the pumps for the fountains, extravagant but pretty cool. We also found spotted some sawfly larvae webs (2nd extra).
We'll definitely go back and explore some more. More pictures on flickr.
