Gifts

I posted on 25 April a picture of some communion ware ahead of the visit by some senior representatives of the Presbyterian Church of Korea. Today they joined our service so we had a mixture or readings in Korea and in English.

The lead visitor was the Moderator of the Church. Their church membership numbers 2.2 million. He presented our Minister with the latest publication of the bible in Korean. As mentioned previously, an elder at our church from 1910 until his death had been the first to help translate the New Testament into Korean hence the links with our church.

Knowing the propensity to provide gifts we arranged for a Communion plate from 1901 to be given to the Moderator: it would have been in use at the time the elder, Rev Dr John Ross, had been in the congregation.

For the visiting party of 20+ a colleague had prepared these small gifts of a prayer card with some tablet. I did advise them not to do what one tourist did when, thinking it was soap, tried to wash himself in the shower with it.

The rest of the day was effectively spent writing up a paper on our various church visits ahead of a meeting later in the week.
