Winter be gone!

F and I went to the May Horns celebration at Penzance yesterday.  The crow (Old Ned) representing winter is defeated by spring in the form of the Teaser, the lady dressed in white.

They parade along the front from Newlyn to Penzance accompanied by the crowd blowing horns, whistles and banging things which was supposed to "get rid of the devil of winter". Afterwards there was singing and Cornish dancing in a local pub.  Years ago the tradition was banned in Penzance for being too noisy.

My college friends J and P retired to Penzance although have moved away now.  A few years ago we went to May Horns when she was the teaser.  They came back this year and we met up with them there which was lovely.  A most enjoyable time was had!
