Bank holiday Monday. I had an appointment at 9.30 and as all other retailers were opening 10 a.m. the centre was empty apart from me.

I remember the first V.E day being nearly eight years old and we had a street party, no worries about cars then. No fun being a child during this war perhaps made us stronger.
