As I take this, a woman with a small child in a pushchair stops beside me.

Woman; "have you seen three chicks wandering around?"
Me; puzzled look.
Woman; "I mean duckings. I saw them earlier but they've gone."
Me; "no - sorry."

She goes on to explain that there's a daddy duck and a mummy duck wandering down the street sounding distressed.  Presumably the duck equivalent of "you wait till I get you home..."

I express sympathy and decide not to tell her about Mr Fox and family, who live just round the corner.
