Taking aim

The muzzle of a cannon, dating back to the Crimean war in 1855, appears to take aim at the centre of Stornoway. It is located outside Lews Castle, on the southern end of the promenade that fronts the castle.
Lews Castle is not a castle, it is a mansion with towers, cranellated currets and gargoyles, built by Sir James Matheson, who grew rich off the opium trade in the 19th century.
