WW2…my father in law

This is one of the group photos we have of my father in law who was a Sargent in the Royal Marines during the war.the extra shows his medal. Lots of weaponry in the photo. I’m also surprised at how tall some of the guys were as my father in law was well over six foot. He met my mother in law when he was injured, during a climbing exercise in the U.K.. A large boulder fell on his hand resulting in him having to have one finger amputated and my mother in law was in the operating theatre. While he was recovering I assume they got friendly!  They got married in Hythe during the war when both on leave. Before the war he worked as a printer and book binder in Plymouth (although his father had worked as a guard on the railways) and continued to do so after the war. Although my mother in law was from Scotland she lived in Plymouth for a while until they moved to Yeovil in Somerset to a brand new house. I’m guessing a lot of houses were built there after the war.

Today I went to RHS gardens at Wisley and met two friends there. Lots of lovely flowers …Rhododendrons and azaleas etc. plus lots of plants looking really green and healthy…and the vegetable garden then much more advance than our allotments!
