VE Day 80th celebrations
Back blip
We spent the morning watching the celebrations in London on the TV. So many memories were restored. I was born early 1945, so was around in the early post war years and heard the stories as I was growing up.
My father was a civilian aircraft engineer working at RAF Kirkbride from 1939 when it was established until 1960 when it closed. He had started working for the Air Ministry in the North East of Scotland and was posted to Kirkbride when it opened. It was used as an airfield and maintenance unit throughout that time. I grew up being familiar with aircraft.
I felt that it was appropriate to put up the bunting that I made for the Coronation, one strip facing outward and the other facing inward so that we can see it.
I must look for any old photos.
