House Finch
Those of us who saw the finch figured it must be a young one waiting for food or instruction from the folks. Although we were fairly close, it didnt move a feather, just sat up there on the fence post and hoped for the best.
I was visiting a private iris garden in the next town over. The gardener is a member of the local Iris Society and opens up her place for viewing a couple times during high season. She has several hundred different varieties, all neatly planted out, and some are arranged in alphabetical order. It was a drool-worthy adventure—each flower seemed more ornate and colorful than the last. I came away vowing to organize my collection, and wanting to be sure to catch the club’s rhizome sale in a couple months. I usually get plants from friends, so I was surprised to learn that one rhizome can be very expensive—well over fifty bucks for the very special varieties.
