More Hills
Down to Patterdale and a hike over the hills on the southern side of Ullswater which we were looking across at last Sunday.
A super warm day for hiking. We were checking out the options for aircraft spotting while bagging a few more summits. Birk Fell was the favourite, we found a spot 1000 feet above a bend in Ullswater where the low fliers turn northwest hugging the contours of the lake.
We sat up there and had our lunch hoping for some action but no luck.
Later when descending along the contour to Low Birk Fell this RAF A400 Atlas appeared at my elbow without warning - the turboprops are surprisingly quiet. Typically my camera was away in my bag, I managed to swing around my slingbag, unzip the side opening, extract camera, remove hood and lens cap, throw them to the ground, switch to my AF-C setting and grab a couple of shots without falling over which was a success however they came out.
