Barnacle Goose

A trip up north today for a visit to the Highland Wildlife Park. It has been a number of years since we visited and there is quite a lot of construction work being undertaken.

On our drive through the reserve we heard the geese long before we saw them. A fair number of Greylags (no goslings) and then we spotted the Barnacle Geese. Compared to the Greylags the Barnacle Geese have a tiny little beak.

We were very lucky with the weather with the sunshine taking over just as we parked the car and on the way home the sun was behind us so no dazzling.

The extra is a highly coloured Himalayan Monal .... a bird which belongs to the same family as Scotland's Capercaillie. Loss of habitat is the largest threat to the survival of the Himalayan Monal as they struggle to adapt to changing habitats.

A very big thank you to all who dropped by yesterday and left some lovely comments, stars and hearts ..... what a great bunch of blippers you are.
