DAMMIT!!!!!

I was at the track today photographing construction updates for the archives.  There's a new over-the-track bridge on the main straightaway and I was slowly moving up the newly paved section to see if they'd managed to pave the other side access.

You know how they put down a base layer of asphalt (bitumin?) first and then a finish layer a few days later?  There's always some of the base material on the sides and about a 3 inch drop from the paving to the base layer of gravel. One gets a perfect shot like this if he's watching the road instead of his feet and steps half-way on the paved portion and the other half on the base layer and loses his balance.

As I fell to the ground, instinct had me shoot a few frames on the way down.  I was forever grateful that Candid Camera or You Tube were not there to record the graceful incident but I managed to get up with a very bloody knee (gravel bites hard) and a world class bloody oowie on my right elbow.  Even put a nice hole in my sweatshirt.

But I saved the Z9 from disaster with only some dirt and a small scratch on it and was rewarded with a very nice shot of what it looks like falling down at 80+ years old.  You'd have thought I'd learned a few things about such situations in 8 decades of life...but all evidence to the contrary.  On the other hand....this might make a pretty nice abstract shot.

BEST IN LARGE.
